Antique & Vintage Postcards

Rows of grapevines stretch toward the blue Mayacama Mountains in this vivid chrome-era postcard from Louis M. Martini Winery's legendary Monte Rosso vineyard — a site now celebrated as one of California's great old-vine terroirs, its volcanic red soil coaxing Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon to extraordinary concentration. Sent in July 1976 by a traveler named Arlene and Mel to friends Saul and Norma in Minneapolis, the message radiates vacation joy: "Been wine tasting in both Napa and Sonoma counties. It's hot during day, but cools off at night. Also, there are many historical spots up this way. Went through Paso Robles on way here." The 9-cent Capitol building stamp (USA "Right to Assemble" series) is machine-cancelled. Published by Billick Printing of Berkeley, California, this is a classic mid-century winery promotional postcard that captures Martini's St. Helena, Napa County roots and the Monte Rosso vineyard that would later become world-famous under subsequent ownership.
