Postcard 1960s Chrome Cooper Inn Cooperstown NY Built 1812 Otesaga

Cooperstown, New York, USA1968ChromeExcellent

Sunlight falls warmly across the handsome red-brick facade of the Cooper Inn in Cooperstown, New York — a two-story Italianate structure built in 1812 that still welcomed travelers more than a century and a half later when this chrome-era photograph was taken, a pair of late-1960s American sedans parked casually along its front drive. Named for the founding Cooper family of Cooperstown (James Fenimore Cooper's descendants), this intimate inn operated as an affiliate of the prestigious Otesaga Resort Hotel, offering guests a quieter, more homelike alternative while granting access to all of the Otesaga's resort amenities. General Manager Kenneth Arnold oversaw the property during this era. Photographer Peter L. Hollis of Cooperstown captured the building in glorious Ektachrome color, preserving the deep blue summer sky and lush green grounds that made upstate New York such a beloved destination. The card was never sent, its back remaining pristine.
