Chittenden) Locks as the tugboat Wedell guided a massive black-hulled ocean freighter through the enormous chamber — a scene that still draws crowds today but felt genuinely thrilling to a visitor from Indiana. Photographed in Kodachrome by the legendary Pacific Northwest duo Bob and Ira Spring, this chrome-era card bursts with the saturated color palette of mid-century travel optimism: deep blue lock water, rust-orange ship hull, and the lush Douglas firs of Magnolia bluff in the background. Kirby dashed off a breezy note to Lacey back home on South Perry Street in Attica, Indiana, promising to tell her about the "lot of wonderful sights" in person. The card was mailed July 2, 1955 with a 2-cent Jefferson stamp, the standard domestic postcard rate of the era.
