Postcard 1927 White Border Palisades Kersey Coates Drive Kansas City MO

Kansas City, MO, USA1927Pre-linenGood

Three Edwardian-era strollers pause beneath the dramatic limestone ramparts of Kersey Coates Drive in this hand-colored white-border postcard postmarked Independence, Missouri, September 19, 1927 — a horseless carriage sits at the foot of the grand stone staircase while ornamental pavilions crown the bluff above, a civic monument to Kansas City's gilded ambitions along the Missouri River bluffs. The Palisades were a beloved feature of the city's boulevard system, and the card's vivid peach-and-blue sky anchors a composition that reads almost like a European castle approach. Sender Leon and someone else wrote to Mr. and Mrs. H. (Stringer) in Port Huron, Michigan on July 19, noting Kansas City as "a lovely and nice place" — a warm endorsement of a city then riding the Jazz Age boom.
