Antique & Vintage Postcards

Bathed in the warm amber and rose tones characteristic of Curt Teich's celebrated linen printing, this unused card presents the sprawling Grand Canyon Hotel at Yellowstone National Park — its long low-slung wings and russet-shingled rooflines stretching across an open meadow just a quarter mile from the rim of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. The hotel, one of the great park hostelries operated in the classic era of American automobile tourism, offered what the reverse calls "metropolitan accommodations and courteous and efficient service" to the growing wave of mid-century park visitors. Copyrighted by Haynes Inc. of Yellowstone Park, Wyoming — the venerable park photography dynasty founded by F. Jay Haynes — and printed by Curt Teich & Co. of Chicago under the "C.T. Art-Colorton" trademark, this card carries catalog number 6A-H792 and is a fine example of the golden age of national park souvenir publishing.
