Postcard 1982 Chrome O'Connell Bridge River Liffey Dublin Ireland John Hinde

Dublin, Ireland1982ChromeGood

Double-decker buses jostle for position on O'Connell Bridge as the River Liffey glints below in this vivid early-1980s chrome-era view of Dublin's bustling heart — a scene already vanishing as the city modernized around its Georgian bones. The John Hinde Original print saturates the quaysides in that signature hyper-real palette: cream-and-yellow CIÉ buses, a rust-red van, the green copper dome of what appears to be the old D.B.C. building, and in the distance the then-new Liberty Hall tower punctuating the skyline. A sender named Sue dashed off a breezy note to the Snyder family in suburban Chicago, reporting that she and her companions had "just about seen all of Ireland" and were leaving for Wales the next morning — the weather "beautiful," the scenery "indescribable," and everybody "having a good time." The airmail sticker (Par Avion / Aerphost O.E. 78) and a 26p Irish definitive carry the card across the Atlantic in 1982, tying the ephemeral joy of a package holiday to a specific, dateable moment in Dublin streetscape history.
