Postcard c1909 Embossed Valentine's Day Dove Heart Flowers Saxony Print

Frome, Somerset, United Kingdom1909Pre-linenGood

Shimmering with gold glitter, raised lily-of-the-valley blooms, and forget-me-nots in the softest china blue, this heavily embossed Edwardian valentine fairly vibrates with the era's passion for elaborate sentimental stationery — a gilded arrow pierces a white dove set against a copper-leafed heart wreathed in dimensional flowers, beneath a ribbon pennant reading "To My Valentine" in graceful script. Printed in Saxony (Germany) for the British market under Series No. V.1.BB London, it was sent by someone identifying themselves only as "G.A." to a Charles in Frome, Somerset — a tiny, tender transaction of affection that survived over a century. The back carries the characteristic dual-column divided format with the instruction about inland postage rules, placing it firmly in the 1902–1910 window when embossed Saxony valentines flooded the British and American markets. The glitter and embossing remain remarkably crisp.
