Postcard 1939 Dunoon Scotland Pocket Novelty Pull-Out Accordion Views Xmas

Dunoon, Argyll, Scotland1939Pre-linenGood

A delightful piece of Edwardian-to-interwar novelty printing, this "Pocket Novelty Card" from Dunoon, Argyll, Scotland conceals a miniature accordion-fold leporello of black-and-white panoramic views tucked behind the illustrated cover — a rosy-cheeked Scottish child in tartan cap and kilt clutching an enormous spray of white heather, the universal Scottish good-luck charm. Pull the tab and seven tiny vistas cascade out: a panoramic view of Dunoon from the hills, the seafront promenade with bathers, the Memorial and Pavilion, East Bay, and more — a complete tourist portrait of this beloved Firth of Clyde resort town in miniature. The sender inscribed it warmly to George for Christmas 1939, noting poignantly "I was there with children" — written just months into World War II, lending the cheerful seaside images an inadvertent gravity. Published by E.T.W. Dennis & Sons of London and Scarborough, a prolific British novelty postcard house.
