Antique & Vintage Postcards

A Nile crocodile rears its massive head skyward with jaws thrown wide open, caught mid-lunge at the water's edge in a dramatic display of raw African wilderness — sandy riverbanks stretch behind it under a pale blue sky dotted with distant acacia trees. Published by the celebrated French natural history postcard house Éditions Hoa-Qui under their Mexichrome color process, this card captures the kind of breathtaking wildlife encounter that defined mid-century African safari imagery. Hoa-Qui, founded in Paris, was among the most prolific and respected publishers of French colonial and African fauna postcards, and their Mexichrome series is actively collected today for its rich, saturated color reproduction. The crocodile appears to be a large adult Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus), photographed in what appears to be sub-Saharan Africa, likely along the Niger or Congo river systems. This card was never mailed and remains in excellent unposted condition.
