Antique & Vintage Postcards

Four reticulated giraffes rest languidly in lush green savanna brush, their impossibly long necks rising like ancient columns against a canopy of twisted acacia and dense foliage — a rare and intimate view of Africa's tallest animals in a posture seldom captured on film. Published by Sapra Studio out of Nairobi, Kenya (P.O. Box 5892), this card is part of the well-documented "African Wild Life" series that circulated widely through East African tourism shops and game lodges in the 1960s and early 1970s. Sapra Studio was a major Nairobi-based photographic publisher serving the burgeoning East African safari tourism industry, and their numbered wildlife series are keenly collected today as records of both natural history and mid-century African travel culture. This unused example is clean and bright, carrying card number N. 57 in the series.
