Postcard 1960s Marrakech Koutoubia Mosque Water Vendors Morocco Chrome

Marrakech, Morocco1965ChromeGood

Against a blazing Moroccan sky, the 12th-century minaret of the Koutoubia Mosque soars above a stand of dark cypresses, its geometric terracotta lacework catching the afternoon sun — and in the foreground, two gnaoua water vendors in full ceremonial costume, their wide-brimmed hats strung with brass cups and colored tassels, pause as if mid-conversation in the plaza below. The Koutoubia, completed under the Almohad dynasty around 1158 and a model for Seville's Giralda and Marrakech's own later minarets, remains the city's defining landmark. This vivid chrome-era card captures that postcolonial tourist Morocco of the 1960s, when Marrakech was drawing European and American visitors enchanted by its ancient medina and vibrant street theater. Published by Realux (catalog 1305/2) and distributed by Colting Global Traders of Tanger, the card is unused with a clean back; the penciled "25" at top likely a dealer's price note.
