Postcard 1968 Rabat Morocco Multi-View Chrome Hassan Tower King Hassan II

Rabat, Morocco1968ChromeFair-Good

Written in a traveler's looping cursive, this chrome multi-view card from Rabat, Morocco captures both the timeless grandeur of the 12th-century Hassan Tower minaret and the crisp mid-century modernism of the Moroccan capital's city center — a vivid contrast that the sender, a woman named Edna, describes with wonder: "The African people are quite different. Women with long robes with their faces covered all but the eyes." Mailed in 1968 to her friend Florence in Milton, Massachusetts, the card carries three Moroccan stamps bearing the portrait of the young King Hassan II (Royaume du Maroc series, 0.40f × 2 and 0.05f), postmarked Rabat. Edna writes that she is traveling from Spain into Morocco before flying home to New York via Portugal — a grand tour of the Mediterranean world at the height of the jet age. The card's three panels show the Hassan Tower ruins, the Tour Hassan complex from the countryside, and an aerial view of Rabat's Avenue Mohammed V with its palm-lined boulevard and period automobiles.
