Antique & Vintage Postcards

Steam, spa culture, and socialist-era modernism converge in this cheerful chrome multiview from Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad), Czechoslovakia, mailed in September 1983 — four views showing the grand Sanatorium Richmond, the angular Švýcarský Dvůr (Swiss Court) sanatorium in its brutalist-chic glass-and-concrete glory, the terrace promenade of Sanatorium Sanssouci, and a spirited bronze fountain group of two leaping figures in a park above the Richmond. On the back, Helga pens a warm note in German to her friend Hanni at a Vienna address, reporting that she and a companion are there for a treatment cure and that the wonderful weather will surely contribute to the success. A second writer — signing with an illegible flourish — adds that he or she will see Hanni in Vienna in November. Two Czechoslovak stamps frank the card: a 1 Kčs and a 2 Kčs, postmarked Karlovy Vary 28.IX.1983.
