Postcard 1937 Linen Estes Park Rocky Mt NP Colorado The Crags House Hill

Estes Park, Colorado, USA1937LinenGood

Perched high above the pines of Estes Park, this vibrant linen-era postcard captures the commanding view from "The Crags" — a beloved Rocky Mountain National Park landmark — with the grand resort hotel nestled among the conifers far below and snow-dusted peaks rising on the horizon. Produced by the legendary Curt Teich & Co. of Chicago (catalog no. 4A-H172), the card crackles with the saturated greens and golds that made linen cards the picture-postcards of their era. On July 6, 1937, a traveler named "Med" dashed off a breezy note on the road: having left the heat of Nebraska behind, they'd reached the Rockies to find fresh snow still dusting the peaks — a "fine trip" indeed. The card was addressed to a Mrs. Kolth— and colleagues at the U.S. Bureau of Mines, Interior Department, Washington, D.C., lending it a delightful government-office human-interest angle. The 1¢ green Washington stamp (Scott #804) is cleanly cancelled with the Estes Park, Colorado circular date stamp dated JUL 12, 1937.
