From the height of a rooftop or upper window, the spiralling reliefs of the Column of Marcus Aurelius soar above a busy Piazza Colonna in Rome, circa 1934 — early automobiles and horse-drawn vehicles encircle the ancient monument in a tableau that perfectly straddles antiquity and Mussolini-era modernity, the surrounding Palazzo Chigi and neighbouring palaces framing the scene with Baroque authority. Published by Cecami in 1934 and printed by Fotogravare Cesare Capello of Milano — one of Italy's finest photogravure houses — this card achieves the rich tonal depth and sharp architectural detail that make Cecami Roma cards so prized among collectors of Italian topographic ephemera. The card has never been posted or written; it retains its original creamy stock with only minor age toning consistent with ninety years of survival, and the dramatic bird's-eye composition gives it an almost cinematic quality that transcends the typical tourist souvenir.
