Postcard 1922 Parliament Buildings Ottawa Canada Valentine & Sons Linen Used

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada1922Pre-linenFair-Good

Sweeping above a canopy of tall cedars and manicured grounds, the Gothic Revival spires and copper-green rooflines of Ottawa's Parliament Buildings command the skyline in this richly tinted Valentine & Sons card — the Centre Block still standing in its pre-1916-fire incarnation, lending this image rare historical weight for Canadian collectors. Published by the Valentine & Sons United Publishing Co. (Toronto and Winnipeg), printed in the USA, and numbered 106,212 with the distinctive "J.V." publisher's logo in the lower corner, the card was posted from Ottawa in 1922 with a Canadian 2-cent George V Admiral stamp. Harry and Marguerite sent it to Mr. and Mrs. W.A. at 601–14th Street, Port Huron, Michigan — the same Port Huron address that appears on another card in this lot, suggesting a connected family correspondence — with the practical note that their address "beginning Wednesday" would be the Mt. Royal Hotel, Montreal, Québec. A real cross-border summer journey captured in a single line.
