Antique & Vintage Postcards

Reflected in the still waters of the River Cher, the fairy-tale towers of Château de Chenonceau rise against a brooding sky in this evocative early-twentieth-century French carte postale — a stone garden urn in the foreground lending elegant scale to one of France's most beloved Renaissance landmarks. Captured from the north garden side (côté Nord), the composition emphasizes the château's dramatic relationship with the water that has defined its history since Catherine de Medici and Diane de Poitiers wrestled over its ownership. Published by R. Dorange, édit., Tours — a regional publisher closely associated with Loire Valley views — this is card no. 20 in a Chenonceaux series (Indre-et-Loire designation: I.-et-L.). The reverse is entirely unused, with a clean divided-back layout typical of the 1905–1915 era of French postcard production.
