Postcard 1909 Embossed Easter Greetings Horseshoe Forget-Me-Nots Turin NY

Turin, New York, USA1909Pre-linenFair-Good

Delicate forget-me-nots in soft blue cluster around a silver horseshoe framing a pastoral countryside vignette — all set within an ornate gilt-scrolled border on this beautifully embossed Edwardian Easter greeting card that still carries a whisper of spring more than a century after it was mailed. The rich chromolithographic embossing, characteristic of the finest German-printed American holiday cards of the 1900s–1910s, gives the flowers and scrollwork a satisfying three-dimensional texture. Postmarked from Turin, New York, it was addressed to a woman named Edna at Pope Mills, St. Lawrence County, New York — a tiny hamlet near the Adirondack foothills — by an unknown sender whose cursive, written sideways, is charmingly enthusiastic if hard to decipher. A 1¢ green Washington stamp (Scott #300 or similar, 1902 series) is neatly cancelled with the Turin, NY circular date stamp.
