A simple postcard of Munich's famous Hofbräuhaus carries an unsettling piece of history in its postmark alone — the "Hauptstadt der Bewegung" (Capital of the Movement) swastika cancel officially conferred on the city by Hitler in November 1935, stamped here on a card mailed to an American recipient in Minnesota. The beer hall itself hosted the NSDAP's founding meeting in 1920.
