Postcard 1920s Stanley Park Vancouver Canada Entrance Hand-Colored Unused BC

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada1918Pre-linenExcellent

Promenaders in Sunday dress stroll the broad divided causeway leading into Stanley Park as early automobiles — Model T–era Fords and their contemporaries — glide along flanking lanes, with the Vancouver Rowing Club boathouse gleaming red-roofed at Coal Harbour and the snow-dusted North Shore mountains filling the horizon in this gorgeous hand-colored postcard from the early 1920s. The card was published by The Gowen Sutton Co., Ltd. of Vancouver, B.C., and printed in England — a hallmark of the high-quality photographic postcard trade that flourished in British Columbia during the first two decades of the 20th century. The image captures the park entrance in its Edwardian-era glory, before the causeway was reconfigured, making it a valuable historical document of Vancouver's most beloved green space. The back is completely unused, with no message or address, and the bilingual "The Address only to be written here" layout is consistent with early Divided Back era formatting used by British-market publishers. Gowen Sutton was one of Vancouver's premier postcard publishers, and their hand-colored English-printed views are prized by British Columbia collectors.
