Postcard 1920s Banff Alberta Cascade Mountain Hand Colour RPPC Canada

Banff, Alberta, Canada1922RPPCGood

Bathed in hand-tinted alpine light, this real-photograph postcard frames Banff Avenue stretching toward the immense grey wall of Cascade Mountain — its summit at 9,826 feet dusted in the pale blue of hand-applied watercolour — while early motor cars thread below through the young evergreen corridor that would become one of Canada's most photographed streetscapes; a postcard perhaps tucked into a letter by a traveller named Margaret bound east from Vancouver, or a memento sold at the Canadian Pacific Railway hotel to a honeymooner named Harold. Published by The Camera Products Co. of 1731 Dunbar Street, Vancouver, B.C., and printed in England, this hand-coloured real-photograph card sits squarely in the early 1920s, when the CPR was actively marketing the Rockies to tourists and the undivided left message panel suggests it was never sent. The presence of period automobiles — open-top touring cars consistent with 1918–1925 models — and the absence of later development on Banff Avenue help narrow the date.
