Postcard Bruges Le Lac d'Amour Belgium Undivided Back UB c1902 Unused

Bruges, Belgium1902Pre-linenGood

Still and silver as a mirror, the Lac d'Amour (Lake of Love) at Bruges reflects a medieval water tower, a graceful stone arch bridge, and the soaring spire of the Church of Our Lady rising through the mist — an image that has drawn Romantic travelers to this Flemish city for centuries. Published by Albert Sugg of Ghent (Gand) as Serie 11 No. 60, this early undivided-back card dates to circa 1900–1905, when Belgium's postcard industry was among the most sophisticated in Europe. The undivided back — with its bilingual French/Dutch notation "Côté réservé à l'adresse / Zijde voor het adres alleen" — confirms a pre-1907 production date under Universal Postal Union rules then in force. The card was never posted, preserving both faces in clean, unwritten condition. Bruges' medieval waterways, so nearly lost to 19th-century industrialization plans, were saved by the very Romantic tourism this card helped fuel.
