Brilliant Buchanan tartan borders — bold blocks of yellow, red, green, and blue — frame a misty Scottish highland scene captioned "A Wee Hoose Amang The Heather," where white-woolled sheep graze among purple heather before a thatched stone cottage, tall Scots pines silhouetted in the haar above. The Buchanan clan crest shield with its golden rampant lion anchors the upper left, and a spray of white heather blossoms (Scotland's good-luck flower) decorates the lower corner in delicate relief-style printing. Published by Valentine & Sons Ltd. of Dundee and London — Scotland's most celebrated postcard house — in their "Clan Crest" series, this unused example carries on its verso a stirring wartime-era Prime Ministerial quotation: "Let us all strive without failing in faith or in duty," suggesting a WWII-era printing run. The 1d stamp box and "Printed in Great Britain" reinforce a c.1939–1945 date.
