Antique & Vintage Postcards

Twin Gothic spires of the Hofkirche pierce a pale Alpine sky above the terracotta rooftops of Lucerne, with the glassy expanse of Lake Lucerne (Vierwaldstättersee) stretching toward a luminous wall of snow-capped Alps beyond — one of the most reproduced panoramas in Victorian and Edwardian tourism yet never less than breathtaking in execution. This quietly beautiful hand-tinted lithograph was issued during the golden decade of Swiss grand-tour postcard publishing, when thousands of British, German, and American travellers made Lucerne the pivot of their Continental journeys. The divided-back format ("Carte Postale / Postkarte / Cartolinu postale" in three languages — French, German, and Romansh — reflects Swiss federal multilingual conventions) dates the card to post-1904. The back is completely blank and unposted, preserving the card in near-pristine condition with the embossed texture of quality Swiss stock still crisp to the touch.
