The card, postmarked Dalton, Mass., August 18, 1934, was sent as an invitation to Mrs. Ethel at 63 Taunton Ave., Norton, Massachusetts, inviting her to plan a Berkshire Hills vacation. The Irving House, nestled among towering elms, presents a classic early-twentieth-century resort aesthetic — wraparound verandas, mansard dormers, and manicured grounds that evoke the golden era of New England summer tourism. Published by C. W. Hughes & Co. of Mechanicville, N.Y., with the "Star Quality" and "American Art Colored" imprints, this is a fine example of Depression-era hospitality marketing in the Berkshires.
