Bold and basilica-like, the Methodist Episcopal Church of Dalton, Massachusetts commands its corner lot in this richly colorized undivided-back card — the broad rose window above triple Romanesque entry arches, a squat belfry tower, and a handsome flanking parish hall captured in the warm palette of Edwardian color printing. Another scarce Frank B. Howard local production, this companion piece to the Congregational Church card documents Dalton's Protestant landscape at the turn of the twentieth century, when this Berkshire mill town's churches anchored community life for workers at the great Crane paper mills nearby. The card is unused and retains vivid color, its undivided back and "Domestic One Cent / Foreign Two Cents" stamp box confirming a pre-1907 issue date.
