Postcard King Kamehameha Statue Honolulu Hawaii Chrome Leis Birthday

Honolulu, Hawaii, USA1960ChromeExcellent

Draped head-to-toe in cascading golden plumeria leis for his June 11 birthday celebration, the King Kamehameha statue in downtown Honolulu nearly vanishes beneath a waterfall of yellow blossoms — a breathtaking annual tradition that transforms bronze into living pageantry. Ali'iolani Hale, the grand Italianate government building that served as the backdrop for countless chapters of Hawaiian history, rises behind the figure, its clock tower and colonnaded façade anchoring the scene in the heart of Honolulu's civic core. Two children sit at the base of the monument in the warm afternoon light, dwarfed by the flower-smothered giant above them while a boy strolls nearby. The text on the building reads "Kamehameha I Lima Pa Aie." The back identifies this as a duplicate of the original statue, which stands at Kamehameha's birthplace in Kohala, Hawai'i — a detail that doubles the monument's resonance as a symbol of Hawaiian sovereignty and pride.
