Postcard 1933 Chicago World's Fair Hall of Science Bird's Eye View Linen

Chicago, Illinois, USA1933LinenGood

From high above Lake Michigan's shoreline, a brilliantly rendered bird's-eye illustration reveals the sweeping modernist campus of the Hall of Science at Chicago's 1933 "A Century of Progress" International Exposition — a bold Art Deco complex of interlocking blue, red, and orange volumes that announced America's faith in technology and tomorrow. The cylindrical blue tower at the northwest corner punctuates the composition like an exclamation point, while terraced plazas and a circular reflecting feature give the complex the feel of a city unto itself. Palm-like trees and winding promenades soften the geometric severity, and the shimmer of the lagoon traces the lower-left edge of the frame. The back copy promises that at night the building becomes "a brilliantly illuminated metal and glass creation, rising from colored terraces" — a promise illustrated vividly by companion card PC-02536 in this very batch.
