Postcard 1912 Why Don't You Write Novelty Pen Ink Flowers Fairhaven MA

Fairhaven, Massachusetts, USA1913Pre-linenFair-Good

A charming Edwardian plea arrives in sepia and soft color: against a pale ground, a dip pen and its brass-tipped nib rest atop a folded note that reads "I know of me you often think / But won't you do it, please, in INK" — the word INK emphatic in bold script — while a spray of pink flowers (likely violets) softens the lower left corner. This "Why Don't You Write?" novelty series card was one of dozens of lighthearted correspondence-nag designs mass-produced in the 1910s, sent by one friend to another to prompt a reply. The sender — signing as Margaret — mailed this from Fairhaven, Massachusetts in February of an early teens year, addressing it to a woman named William's wife at 79 Myrtle Street in Watertown, Massachusetts. The handwritten message on the left column references someone having "all" of something and "several" of something else, partially legible. The 1-cent Washington green stamp (Scott #405 or similar) is present and cancelled with a Fairhaven, MA machine cancel.
