A crisp black-and-white photographic postcard freezes a moment of Alpine railway life at the Brünig station: a steam locomotive with a full head of smoke eases past the station buffet building — its sign clearly reading "BUFFET" above the covered platform — while a second train waits on the adjacent loop track, the surrounding mountains still dusted with snow above the treeline. The stark monochrome lends this image a documentary gravitas that the hand-coloured version of the same scene (cf. PC-02570) lacks; here the mechanical textures of the locomotive, the timber-frame station architecture, and the rough-hewn rock cutting are rendered with photographic honesty. The Brünig line's distinctive small-boilered metre-gauge steam engines were a signature sight of the Bernese Oberland at the turn of the century. The undivided back carries Swiss UPU trilingual text in dark blue ink with side-margin address indicators in French and Italian — a format used approximately 1899–1905.
