Postcard 1900 Luzern Switzerland Eden Hotel Alps Lake View Multiview

Lucerne, Switzerland1900Pre-linenExcellent

A silvery Alpine panorama unfolds across this elegant multiview card from turn-of-the-century Lucerne — Lake Lucerne shimmers in the foreground, steamboats moored at the quay, while snow-dusted peaks loom dramatically behind the city's turreted waterfront buildings. Inset at left, framed in a classically styled oval vignette, stands the Eden-Hôtel: a grand Belle Époque corner building with rounded bays, ornate balconies, and a spired turret — the kind of address that once catered to English Grand Tourists and wealthy Swiss escapees. Photographer E. Goetz of Lucerne captured both images with crisp photomechanical precision, lending the card a tactile, steel-engraved quality prized by deltiology collectors. The card was never posted — the undivided back (address-only side) bears no stamp, no message, no postmark — making it a pristine example of the earliest Swiss postal-card era, when only the address could appear on the reverse.
