Nestled where Exmoor's wooded hills plunge dramatically to the sea, Lynmouth Harbour glimmers in this early hand-coloured photographic postcard — one of England's most romantically situated fishing villages captured in the Edwardian golden age of the picture postcard. Small clinker-built rowing boats bob on still jade-green water beside a rough-stone harbour wall; stone cottages and a grand hotel terrace line the quayside, while the deep-green valley rises steeply behind. Numbered 235 in what appears to be a regional photographic series, the card dates to c.1902–1904 based on its undivided back format, which required all messages to be written on the picture side, leaving this example's reverse completely blank and pristine. Lynmouth would later become world-famous for the catastrophic flood of 1952, making pre-disaster images of the harbour of particular historical and local interest to Devon collectors.
