Postcard RPPC Wiesbaden Marktplatz Marktkirche Germany 1972 Used Stamps

Wiesbaden, Germany1972ChromeGood

Framed by a graceful iron gas lamp in the foreground, this sharp real-photo postcard of Wiesbaden's Marktplatz looks across the wide open square toward the soaring neo-Gothic spires of the Marktkirche — the Market Church completed in 1862 and one of the defining landmarks of this elegant Rhenish spa city. Period automobiles including Volkswagen Beetles and early 1950s–60s saloons ring the square, perfectly dating the photograph to the postwar economic miracle era; the city escaped relatively light damage in WWII compared to nearby Frankfurt, preserving the integrity of this Victorian-era townscape. The card was posted in April 1972, franked with a 3p Queen Elizabeth II Machin definitive from Walsall, Staffordshire — an intriguing reversal suggesting a British sender writing home from Germany. The message, in flowing cursive, fills the address side completely.
