Stately and severe in rich sepia tones, the Wiesbaden Rathaus (City Hall) commands the full frame of this undivided-back Deutsche Reichspost era postcard — its elaborate Renaissance Revival gabled roofline, rusticated stone arcade, and twin corner turrets rendered in crisp photographic halftone by Dresden's premier postcard house, Römmler & Jonas, whose "Ogse" series was among the most collectible of the Wilhelmine period. The card is entirely unused, blank on the reverse save for the elegant blackletter "Deutsche Reichspost / Postkarte" heading and address lines — a pristine survivor from the reign of Kaiser Wilhelm II, when Wiesbaden served as an imperial summer residence and the Rathaus was the civic heart of a booming spa capital. Small figures on the front steps give scale to the massive building.
