An austere peasant bedroom in a Bohemian mining town becomes sacred ground in this rare devotional postcard series — the plain iron bedstead, lace-edged coverlet, dark wood armoire topped with a crucifix and a Marian figurine, and humble china displayed in a glass-fronted cabinet are shown not for their beauty but for their significance: this is the birthplace bedroom of Dr. Theodor Cardinal Innitzer, Archbishop of Vienna, in Weipert (Vejprty), Czechoslovakia. Two views are presented — the window side (Fensterseite) showing the wardrobe corner with religious objects, and the door side (Türseite) revealing framed devotional paintings of the Madonna and Child and a formal illuminated certificate bearing Innitzer's name on the wall above the bed. Published by the Catholic Mission Press and marked "Nachdruck verboten" (reproduction forbidden), these cards were issued as pious keepsakes, likely in the early 1930s when Innitzer's elevation to Cardinal made him a celebrated figure — just years before his complex and controversial role during the Anschluss of 1938.
