A second, unused example of the Louvre's Pavillon de Rohan from the same turn-of-the-century Paris series — here in a slightly crisper impression — shows horse-drawn carriages threading through the wide esplanade as top-hatted Parisians stroll beneath ornate gas lanterns, the elaborately carved pavilion facade filling the background with Napoleon III–era grandeur. Printed in the earliest style of French carte postale with an undivided back reserving the entire reverse for the address ("Ce côté est exclusivement réservé à l'adresse"), this card predates the 1904 regulation that introduced the divided back now familiar to collectors, placing it firmly in the pioneering era of European picture postcards. Never mailed and free of any writing, it survives in remarkably clean condition for its age.
