Postcard 1920s Auriac La Haute-Garonne Place République France Unused

Auriac, Haute-Garonne, France1920Pre-linenGood

Dusty and atmospheric, the Place de la République of the tiny village of Auriac in the Haute-Garonne département comes alive in this hand-tinted early twentieth-century card: a knot of villagers and farmers cluster around a covered market pavilion, a horse-drawn wagon stands at the left, and the robust Romanesque tower of the local church punches above the low tile-roofed houses into a hand-colored cerulean sky — a scene that could belong to any market day in rural Occitan France of the 1910s or 1920s. Published as number 1099 in the "Pyrénées-Océan" series by the Toulouse house of Labouche frères, prolific documentarians of the French southwest, the card is unused and retains vivid color tinting with only minor age. Auriac-sur-Vendinelle in Haute-Garonne is a small commune; postcards of it are genuinely scarce and sought by collectors of the Lauragais region.
