Postcard c1914 Château de Vaure Ruch Gironde France Bordeaux Region

Ruch, Gironde, France1912Pre-linenFair-Good

Bare winter branches frame the austere limestone façade of the 17th-century Château de Vaure, tucked into the quiet Entre-Deux-Mers wine country near Ruch in the Gironde — a property then belonging to M. Pollardeau, the mayor of Ruch, whose name and title are proudly printed on the card's face. A wooden sawhorse or trellis frame sits incongruously in the foreground, hinting at ongoing estate work, while ivy clings to the flanking walls. The card was addressed in sweeping French cursive to "Monsieur Rich Kreunmler u. Familie" in Stolpen, Saxony, Germany, with the destination country "Allemagne" (Germany) boldly overwritten — a domestic French card crossing the border in what appears to be the pre-war years. The rare pairing of a hyper-local Gironde château subject with a cross-border address to Saxony gives this card unusual appeal for both regional French and Franco-German postal history collectors.
