Postcard Musée Versailles Debret Legion d'Honneur 1804 Napoleon LL Paris

Paris / Versailles, France1908Pre-linenExcellent

Napoleon leans forward from his throne with intimate focus as he pins the very first Croix de la Légion d'Honneur onto a kneeling recipient in Jean-Baptiste Debret's sweeping ceremonial canvas — here captured in warm sepia by the Lévy et Neurdein Réunis (LL) workshop for their Musée de Versailles series, card no. 34. The detail crops the scene to its dramatic core: turbaned Mameluke guards, plumed grenadiers, and the tight cluster of dignitaries framing the moment in the church of Les Invalides on 14 July 1804, Bastille Day, when Bonaparte transformed a revolutionary ideal into imperial pageantry. This unused card retains its original crispness and is a perennial favourite among Napoleonica and French history collectors who have driven steady demand for the LL Versailles series for decades.
