Postcard 1900 Geneva Quai du Mont-Blanc Promenade Belle Époque Charnaux UPU

Geneva, Switzerland1902Pre-linenGood

Elegantly composed, this sharp halftone photograph postcard places the viewer among Geneva's fashionable promenaders on the Quai du Mont-Blanc — a gentleman in a boater strides past the ornate cast-iron lamp standard in the foreground, while two women in white Gibson-girl blouses share a parasol nearby, the Rhône basin shimmering at mid-frame and the distant Salève cliff looming through hazy summer air, the spire of the Madeleine church just visible at right. Charnaux Frères & Cie (no. 1490) photographed this bustling lakeside promenade with reportorial precision, capturing the texture of Belle Époque leisure at one of Europe's grandest resort waterfronts. The back carries the full Union Postale Universelle trilingual formula — French, German, Italian — without a divided-back message space, placing it in the undivided-back transitional era c.1900–1904 when Swiss cards still required correspondence on the image side.
