Cradled in its original black fitted case lined with rich burnt-orange velvet, this exceptional antique meerschaum pipe features a deeply carved lattice-and-scroll bowl — an openwork design of interlocking circles punched through the body and encircled by a band of relief wave-scroll ornament — set atop a long, gracefully curved genuine amber stem that glows deep cherry-red in the light, the hallmark of natural Baltic amber aged over a century. Meerschaum (sepiolite) pipes of this quality were luxury objects, typically carved by specialist craftsmen in Vienna or Budapest during the 1880s–1910s, and the survival of both the pipe and its bespoke fitted case in presentable condition is increasingly rare. The bowl interior shows honest patina — the characteristic honey-brown seasoning of a pipe that was actually smoked — while the exterior retains its cream-white surface with the carved decoration crisp and intact. The amber stem is uncracked. The case retains both brass clasp hardware (one with decorative key escutcheon) and the full velvet lining, with only minor edge wear to the exterior lacquered finish.
