Postcard ~1915 Court of Hotel Alcazar St Augustine FL Linen-Era Unused 1375

St. Augustine, Florida, USA1918Pre-linenExcellent

Lush tropical arbors create a dramatic tunnel of greenery framing a long reflecting pool at the Court of the Hotel Alcazar — one of Henry Flagler's crown jewels of Gilded Age Florida, designed by the celebrated firm Carrere & Hastings and opened in 1889 in St. Augustine. The hand-tinted image glows with impossible greens and teals, the Moorish-Romanesque towers rising above a canopy of fan palms, a hallmark of the White Border postcard era's idealized color printing. The Alcazar's casino, indoor pool, and ornate gardens made it one of the most fashionable winter resorts in America; today the building houses the Lightner Museum. This example is unused and pristine, with the undivided-style stamp box noting "United States and Canada ONE CENT / Foreign TWO CENTS," placing production firmly in the 1910s–early 1920s.
