Postcard 1976 Chrome Camino Real Hotel Bar Pool Puerto Vallarta Mexico

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico1976ChromeGood

Sunbathers lounge poolside beneath an enormous palapa thatch roof while swimmers gather at the swim-up bar — a snapshot of jet-set Mexico at its most glamorous, captured at the iconic Camino Real Hotel in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, circa 1976. The curvilinear modernist tower rises behind lush palms, its cantilevered balconies a hallmark of the 1969 Legorreta-era design. On the back, a traveler named "Be—" (likely Bette or Beverly) wrote to the family back in Rochester, N.Y.: "This is as close to paradise as I ever expect to get. The days are warm, sunny & beautiful. We are enjoying a great vacation. Love." Mailed April 20, 1976 from Puerto Vallarta by air mail, the card bears a Mexican $1.60 Correo Aéreo definitive stamp from the Chiapas archaeological series.
