RPPC Postcard c.1950 Hotel Majestic Pool Acapulco Mexico Real Photo Navarro

Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico1953RPPCGood

A languid crescent swimming pool winds along a stone terrace above Acapulco Bay in this beautifully composed real-photo postcard of the Hotel Majestic — palm trees casting dappled shadows over the empty deck, the calm bay beyond alive with small boats, and the forested hills of the opposite shore rising in soft tones of grey. The sender, writing to "Hanty" (Miss Anna M. Murphy) at 3 Branch Street, Livonia, New York, recounts a harrowing drive — "one of the worst roads I've ever been on — 200 miles of construction through the mountains, took 9 hours to drive 250 miles" — before settling into the hotel's all-inclusive comfort: "our meals are included in the room so we're taking advantage of that." Signed by Rose and Rita, this card from the Majestic's pool side (photographer credited as Navarro) pairs beautifully with PC-02705 from the same hotel, together offering a complete portrait of mid-century Acapulco resort life before the concrete towers arrived.
