Two tiny automobiles crawl along a dramatically winding mountain road carved into the Sierra Madre Oriental above Monterrey in this crisp real-photo postcard from the early 1950s — a perfect snapshot of mid-century Mexican highway engineering at its most scenic. The Carretera Monterrey–Chipinque climbed to the Chipinque Mesa ecological park, a playground for Monterrey's elite, and this bird's-eye view captures the raw grandeur of the Sierra Anáhuac: scrub pine, exposed limestone ridges, and an immense valley haze stretching to the horizon. Photographer H. M. López composed the shot masterfully, the road's curves leading the eye upward past pine boughs into the open sky. The card was never mailed and retains a blank, pristine reverse.
