RPPC Postcard 1950s Mexico City Cathedral La Catedral DF Mexico No 105

Mexico City, Mexico1952RPPCGood

Rising in twin Baroque towers above swaying palm fronds and a tiered stone fountain, the Metropolitan Cathedral of Mexico City — the largest cathedral in the Americas — commands this beautifully composed real-photo postcard from the early 1950s. Card No. 105 captures the cathedral's ornate churrigueresque portal and the adjacent Sagrario Metropolitano from the Zócalo gardens at a time when the plaza was still planted with trees and sculpture, before later mid-century clearances. The silver gelatin tones render every carved saint and cornice with startling clarity. The third image (detail scan) reveals the caption lettering "Mexico D.F. — La Catedral" hand-painted directly onto the negative — a common Mexican RPPC studio practice of the era. The card was never mailed.
