Postcard 1963 RPPC Piramide de la Luna Teotihuacan Mexico Real Photo

Teotihuacán, Mexico (mailed from Madison, Wisconsin)1963RPPCFair-Good

A gnarled prickly-pear cactus twists into frame beside the immense, dusty slope of the Pirámide de la Luna — the Pyramid of the Moon — at Teotihuacán, captured in this evocative real-photo postcard mailed in January 1963. The unpaved, vegetation-dotted landscape surrounding the pyramid conveys just how different the archaeological site looked before modern restoration and tourist infrastructure transformed it; this image preserves a vanishing mid-century view of one of the ancient world's great monuments. The card was posted from Madison, Wisconsin (a curious re-mailing point for a Mexican card) to Mrs. Mary at General Delivery, Ransomville, New York. The sender packed the back with a detailed, effusive message about the pyramids, the light on the stones, a cable car ride, and the beauty of Mexico — a vivid traveler's account.
