Postcard 1979 Merida Yucatan Mexico Hackney Coach Park Cepeda Peraza Chrome Posted

Mérida, Mexico1979ChromeGood

Dappled with afternoon light filtering through the great laureles de la India trees of Parque Cepeda Peraza, this chrome-era card captures Mérida's signature horse-drawn coches calesas — elegant black hackney coaches with gleaming brass lanterns — lined up in the park as a driver in a wide straw hat waits patiently atop his rig, a white horse and a dark one standing idle in the Yucatecan heat. The back brings the scene to life: Bob and Char, the same pair who wrote from Cozumel days earlier, here describe a "neat trailer park on the edge of the city," a tremendous seafood dinner downtown, a band playing in the park — and a moonlit hackney-coach ride back to their car. "Sure is hot down here," they note cheerfully, dated Monday March 12 (1979), planning to head back along the coast toward Mexico City. An ideal companion to PC-02728, this card is part of a documented travel sequence through the Yucatán Peninsula, addressed again to the same recipient in Fairport, New York.
