Six mannequins in sumptuous 18th-century court dress inhabit a richly appointed hall — brocaded gowns in gold, ivory, and rose, a gentleman in tan knee-breeches, and one figure poised at a harpsichord — conjuring a colonial-era drawing-room scene at Historic Deerfield's Helen Geier Flynt Fabric Hall in Massachusetts. The room itself is a collector's dream: crewel-embroidered textiles hang on white plaster walls above dark timber beams, a Persian carpet warms the wide-board floor, gilded mirrors reflect candlelight from a brass chandelier, and a red settee anchors the center of the tableau. The Fabric Hall, named for Helen Geier Flynt who with her husband Henry championed the preservation of Deerfield's colonial heritage, displayed one of America's finest collections of historic textiles and costumes.
