Postcard 1950s Plimoth Plantation Pilgrim House Interior Plymouth MA Chrome

Plymouth, Massachusetts, USA1953ChromeExcellent

A four-poster bed hung with white curtains dominates this dimly atmospheric interior of a replica Pilgrim house at Plimoth Plantation in Plymouth, Massachusetts — the trundle bed tucked beneath it for children a poignant reminder of how entire families like those of William or Priscilla once shared a single room through brutal New England winters. A rough-hewn ladder leads to a sleeping loft above; diamond-pane casement windows glow blue-black against the dark, and a small table set with a candle, book, and ceramic vessel completes the carefully researched reconstruction. Plimoth Plantation (now Plimoth Patuxent) opened its living history museum in 1947, and this card — photographed by the Plantation's own staff and published by Bromley & Company of Boston with Natural Color photography by Mike Roberts of Berkeley, California — documents the museum's early interpretive displays before they were substantially updated. A fine artifact of both Pilgrim history and mid-century American heritage tourism.
